Motivated. One of our favorite way to feel. Those days that you go hard, eat well and get great sleep. When you have done a perfect job at being the healthiest human possible and you deserve a gold star. You feel energized, awake and excited. Those feelings are motivation.
But some days are going to be different. Trust me, I have been there too. How do you tackle motivation after you feel like you have lost it all?
Motivation comes from 3 things: a vision, goal setting, and celebrating small successes. If you feel like you have lost your way in the hustle and can’t seem to get back on the bandwagon, sometimes it helps to start back at square one.
What do you envision your life to be like? In our circumstances, what is the vision you have for your health and your body? Why do you want to achieve it? How will your life be different when you reach it? Why are you here in the first place? Is someone forcing this vision upon you?
Now that we have some idea of what you want, your vision, we need to figure out how to get you there. What are your goals? How are we going to make that vision a reality? What do YOU need to accomplish for that vision to happen? How many days a week do you need to exercise? Set a goal that is attainable and specific to help you stay on track.
Celebrating Small Successes.
You have made it thus far. You have achieved one of your mini goals. Holy crap that is amazing! You deserve to be celebrated and pat yourself on the back.
In between all of this motivational work, here are some other important pieces that I do personally to lead to success:
Find what you love, what makes you feel alive and do that to keep the firing burning. Is it going to a concert and feeling inspired? Is it reading a book? Is it creating art? Hiking? Playing music? Writing? Whatever it is that lights a spark in you, do that more often and see how much more motivation you have. Have some fun!
Read or watch an inspirational book or movie. My favorites are “Wild”, “Million Dollar Baby” and “Music of the Heart”.
Sign up for a race or event to work towards. It maybe scary and new but conquering a fear is a great way to feel empowered.
Every day is not going to be perfect. There are going to be weeks where you need to take a step back. But overall, go back to these ideas to help refresh your brain and wake you up again. Go get em!
