EMS - How to explain FITtec. EMS personal training to my friends?

Many of you have been the first to try a new, cutting edge type of training that can allow you to do more work in less time and see great results. I thought it sounded too good to be true until I tried it for myself. As I am entering my 9th year of personal training, I can say with confidence that I firmly believe in this type of training for many reasons. And I am sure many of you can say the same after seeing the results that you have.

For those of you who are new to EMS training, here is a brief explanation of how it works.

What is EMS training?

Electro Muscular Stimulation is used in a 20 minute workout that stimulates the muscle 30% more than in a traditional workout. This type of training uses a direct impulse to the muscle, similar to the type of impulse that your body naturally produces. Your body receives the electrical current through electrodes that are attached to the body that causes the deep muscle fibers to contract and relax at a fast rate. The depth and distribution of  the contraction plus the full body simultaneous stimulation allows your body to do more work in less time.

Who can benefit from this type of workout?

EVERYONE! “E.M.S. has been used for decades by Doctors, Physiotherapists (for muscle rehab, and prevention of muscle atrophy etc.), Chiropractors and Professional Athletes eg: Lee Haney, (body builder) Bruce Lee, martial arts( as seen in film Dragon portrayed by Jason Scott Lee) Mohammad Ali, boxer, used E.M.S. for strengthening his abdominal muscles, sprinter, Angela Taylor, one of the fastest girls in the world used E.M.S. in training.” Usain Bolt (100m world record holder)  and Kariem Benzema (French soccer talisman) (http://www.debmar.com/ems/moreinfo.html).

Recovering from an injury? This can help strengthen yet recover the area of pain with no direct impact on your joints or injury.

Trying to lose weight? One, 20 minute EMS training session equals a 90 minute workout. With the increased muscular activity, simultaneous full body workout and intensity of the training you burn more calories during the session and at rest.

Strength gain and toning? EMS training will increase strength more than any other type of training, increasing maximum recruitment velocity of muscle. There are 150 more muscle contractions than in a normal workout.

Sport specific training? Strength is the foundation of any sport from football to marathon training. Don’t waste any more time lifting weights than necessary. EMS training will increase the strength and stabilization in your muscles without any extra impact; more time for you to hit the road to improve your sport.

What does a typical session look like?

The session begins by applying a thin layer of clothing and an EMS training suit that is fitted to your body. It kind of looks like a bulletproof vest but a whole suit. Water is applied to each electrode pad in order to increase conductivity. Your trainer then plugs you into a high tech Xbody machine and you’re ready to begin training!

In small increments, the trainer will increase the intensity of the stimulation based on how your fitness capabilities, goals and body’s response. The impulse will hit your muscles generally in 4 second increments. During the time period you will complete 1 rep of an exercise depending on the muscle group you are working. It definitely feels strange but it doesn’t hurt at all! You are in control of how much stimulation your body can handle. This type of training is very gentle on your joints, which is one of the biggest perks.

If your friends are still skeptical, recommend that they try a session out for themselves- the first one is FREE! Below is also some additional research that can explain it in a little more detail. See great results, spend less time in the gym and have more time to live your life.

Tell me if you can picture this scene: the hard part of the day is over, you are about to have dinner, you have nowhere else to go but on the couch to wind down and enjoy a quiet evening. You worked out today, walked 3 miles, carried heavy grocery bags up and down the stairs and “ate perfectly”. You deserve a glass of wine to completely relax. One glass turns into two or three. And before you know it 3/4 the bottle is gone.  [ view more ]
